Tournament Rules

Please note that the Organizing committee reserves the right to interpret these rules as they see fit and these rules will be the basis for resolving any issues that arise as the tournament proceeds.

1. Match Duration

Each match will consist of two halves, each lasting 45 minutes with a 15-minute halftime break.

If the match ends in a draw, in the knockout stages, it will proceed to extra time (two halves of 15 minutes each). If still tied, the match will be decided by a penalty shootout.

2. Team Composition
  • Each team must have 11 players on the field, including one goalkeeper.
  • A match can start if a team has at least 7 players; otherwise, it will be forfeited.
  • Teams are allowed to have a maximum of 7 substitutes on the bench.
  • Substitutions: Each team is allowed to make up to 5 substitutions during regular time, with an additional substitution permitted in extra time.
3. Group Stage and Points System

The tournament will begin with a group stage, where teams are divided into three groups.

Points are awarded as follows:

  • Win: 3 points
  • Draw: 1 point
  • Loss: 0 points

The top two teams from A and B advance, then 3 teams from group C also advance, then one best looser will join to make 8 teams for the knockout stage.

4. Tiebreakers

In case teams are tied on points in the group stage, the following tiebreakers will be applied:

  1. Goal difference
  2. Goals scored
  3. Head-to-head record
  4. Fair play points (fewer yellow/red cards)
  5. Draw by lots if all else fails.
5. Offside Rule

The offside rule is strictly enforced. A player is in an offside position if:

They are nearer to the opponent’s goal line than both the ball and the second-last opponent.

A player is not offside if they are level with the second-last opponent or the last two opponents.

Offside infractions result in an indirect free-kick awarded to the opposing team.

6. Fouls and Misconduct

Yellow Card: A caution issued for unsporting behavior, dissent, delaying the restart of play, or other infractions.

Red Card: Results in immediate ejection from the match for serious foul play, violent conduct, spitting, or receiving a second yellow card.

Accumulation of two yellow cards in the tournament will result in a one-match suspension.

7. Penalty Kicks

In the event of a foul occurring inside the penalty area, the opposing team is awarded a penalty kick.

The kick is taken from the penalty mark, 12 yards from the goal line, with only the goalkeeper defending.

8. Free Kicks

Direct Free Kick: Can be taken as a shot directly on goal, awarded for more serious fouls.

Indirect Free Kick: Requires the ball to touch another player before a goal can be scored, awarded for less severe infractions.

9. Corner Kicks

Awarded when the ball crosses the goal line, having last touched a player from the defending team, but not resulting in a goal.

10. Fair Play

Teams are expected to play with respect and sportsmanship.

Unsporting behavior will be penalized, and fair play is encouraged throughout the tournament.

Notes:

Offside Rule Explained: The offside rule is key in football, ensuring fair play and preventing players from gaining an unfair advantage by positioning themselves closer to the opponent’s goal before the ball is played. A player is only penalized for being offside if they are actively involved in play, such as interfering with an opponent or gaining an advantage from their position.

Disciplinary Actions: Repeated unsporting behavior, even minor, can accumulate to serious consequences, including match suspensions.
